Derby Museums Legacy Giving Charity Film

Edis Media partnered with Derby Museums to create an inspiring legacy film, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, encouraging supporters to leave a gift in their Will.

This was about more than heritage. It was about what Derby Museums mean to the people who walk through their doors and why that matters for generations to come. We created an emotive video around real voices, real emotion, and moments that show the museum’s role not just as a place, but as a living, evolving part of the city.

Every shot was planned and crafted to connect with potential legacy donors, real people making real decisions about the future. Working closely with Derby Museums and Legacy Voice, we made sure the film hit the right note: honest, moving, and future-focused.

““Efficient, bubbly, and diligent. Working with them was a great experience and the work created was to an amazing standard.””
— Erin Dodd, Legacy & Individual Giving Officer at Derby Museums

While the ultimate financial return of legacy gifts unfolds over years, the film delivered measurable impact from week one:

  • Derby Museums reported a vast increase in legacy discussions with active supporters, transforming a passive marketing scheme into two-way dialogues.

  • The film empowered the fundraising team with the assurance and emotional framing needed to raise gifts in wills proactively.

  • Awareness expanded beyond the development office, inspiring other museum departments to recognise and champion legacy opportunities.

  • Secured an early estate pledge alongside an evergreen asset now actively deployed across donor stewardship events, digital campaigns, and direct outreach.

"In terms of legacy gifts, you may not see the true financial impact for many years, but we have seen a vast increase in conversations regarding legacies—both with supporters and across other teams at the museums. There is a greater awareness of legacy fundraising and, crucially, much more confidence in our team when discussing legacies. We will continue to use the video across our marketing and are working on ways to push it even further."
